Liposuction-Assisted Removal
Soft lipomas are aspirated through 3–5 mm incisions using liposuction technique — virtually scarless removal, ideal for multiple or large soft lipomas.
What is Liposuction-Assisted Removal?
Liposuction-assisted lipoma removal uses a thin cannula introduced through 3–5 mm incisions to aspirate the lipoma's fat content under negative pressure. The technique is ideal for soft, well-defined lipomas — and particularly valuable for patients with multiple lipomas (lipomatosis) where multiple open excisions would be impractical. Dr. Abhishek performs liposuction-assisted lipoma removal at Lux Hospitals for selected cases offering virtually scarless results, though small risk of incomplete capsule removal needs to be discussed in advance.
How the Procedure Works
Local Anaesthesia & Tumescent
Tumescent local anaesthetic solution is infiltrated to numb and prepare the lipoma.
Small Incision
A 3–5 mm incision is made adjacent to the lipoma for cannula access.
Liposuction
A blunt cannula is introduced and the lipoma fat is aspirated under controlled negative pressure.
Capsule Removal
The remaining capsule is gently extracted through the same small incision when possible.
Compression
Compression dressing is applied for 24–48 hours to reduce bruising and aid skin contraction.
Outcomes
Who Needs This Treatment?
- →Tiny 3–5 mm incisions — virtually scarless outcome
- →Excellent for multiple lipomas in a single sitting
- →Quick procedure under local tumescent anaesthesia
- →Same-day discharge with rapid recovery
- →Particularly useful for large soft lipomas
- →Minimal post-operative pain compared to open excision
Liposuction-assisted removal is brilliant for the right patient — multiple soft lipomas can be cleared in a single session through tiny incisions. We're upfront about the slightly higher recurrence than open excision; for patients prioritising scars, the trade-off is worthwhile.
