Minimal-Incision Extraction
Lipoma is delivered through a small incision — far smaller than the lipoma itself — leaving near-invisible scars. Ideal for face, neck, and visible areas.
What is Minimal-Incision Extraction?
Minimal-incision lipoma extraction is a refined technique in which the lipoma is removed through a small incision — typically one-third to one-half the diameter of the lipoma itself. The lipoma is squeezed out (delivered) through the small opening after careful dissection of its attachments. This technique is ideal for cosmetically sensitive areas like the face, neck, forehead, and arms. Dr. Abhishek performs this at Lux Hospitals when scar minimisation is the priority, using meticulous technique to ensure complete removal with the smallest possible scar.
How the Procedure Works
Local Anaesthesia
Local anaesthetic is infiltrated around the lipoma for a painless procedure.
Small Incision
A small incision (one-third to one-half of lipoma diameter) is made over the lipoma.
Capsule Dissection
The lipoma capsule is dissected free from surrounding tissue using small instruments.
Delivery
The lipoma is squeezed out through the small incision, sometimes piecemeal for larger lesions.
Closure
Dead space is closed with absorbable sutures; skin is closed with fine sutures for best cosmesis.
Outcomes
Who Needs This Treatment?
- →Near-invisible scar — much smaller than the lipoma
- →Excellent for face, neck, and other visible areas
- →Performed under local anaesthesia in day-care
- →Quick recovery with return to office work in 1–2 days
- →Combines small scar with reliable lipoma removal
- →Histology can still be performed on the extracted tissue
Minimal-incision extraction is about respecting the patient's appearance — removing the lump while leaving a scar so small it's barely noticeable. For face and neck lipomas, this technique gives results patients are genuinely happy with.
